REGULATION

Zimbabwe Mixed Martial Arts Association – ZMMAA is registered directly with the SRC – Sports and Recreation Commission. ZMMAA is the only International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) representative in the country. Therefore, it is the only legit governing body in the country for Mixed Martial Arts.

Why do MMA – Mixed Martial Arts require regulation?

Mixed Martial Arts is (even at the Amateur level) an elite-level combat sport where athletes can punch, kick, wrestle and submit their opponents. For the sport to be safe and for athletes to compete on a level playing field, strict regulation must be enacted.

This is not just to prevent one athlete from getting an unfair advantage over another but also to reduce the risk of unnecessary injury due to equipment malfunction, a dangerous fighting area, officials who are not trained to understand the rules, or when a competitor requires medical attention, etc.

Growth of the sport and meeting international standards

ZMMAA is here to ensure the sport of MMA can grow in Zimbabwe and that athletes have the safest environment to grow. In addition, we are here to show the world that Zimbabwe can meet the highest standards. We are here to aid those wanting to become athletes, officials, teams, managers, and promoters.

What disciplines are covered under ZMMAA?

The disciplines encompassed by ZMMAA are disciplines whose elements are integral to the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. MMA is primarily defined as a fully comprehensive, modern combat sport incorporating striking, wrestling, and submission techniques into one sporting discipline. It is the fastest-growing combat sport in the world. ZMMAA will regulate professional, semi-professional, and amateur MMA and reserve the right to define and control each category. ZMMAA will further reserve the right to control hybrid events with variations on rules and bouts outside the MMA category, provided they take place on an event billed as an MMA event.
